Indian batting star Sachin Tendulkar completed 12000 runs in Tests on Friday, the first day of the second Test match between India and Australia being played here.

Tendulkar achieved the feat with his 61st run, a flick down to square-leg of Australian leg-spinner Cameron White. He was given a huge round of applause by his team mates and cricket fans.

Tendulkar, a right-hand bat has played 152 Test matches and scored 12000 runs at an astounding average of 54.29.
Earlier in his innings, Tendulkar became the highest scorer in Tests by surpassing West Indian batsman Brian Lara’s record of 11953 runs. The record came with his 15th run. That landmark was also greeted with joy by players on both sides and the crowd that was watching the match.

Indian football is on the verge of a new development. After winning its first ever Nehru Cup recently, the team is on the seventh heaven and the upcoming World Cup qualifier has been brought alive by the recent success of the Indian team. India after getting a recent jump in the Federation Inerternationale de Football Association (FIFA) rankings reached 145 place (Highest in past few years). But the big question is- “Can we on the basis of India’s recent feats bet on India’s qualification for the 2020 Olympics?”

The selectors discriminated against Sourav Ganguly by ignoring him for the Irani Trophy while retaining Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, who were equally off-colour in the recent Sri Lanka tour.

A FORTNIGHT ahead of Australia’s arrival in India, Sourav Ganguly looks likely to be the first of his country’s ageing champions to be phased out of the Test team.

India’s Leander Paes won his second US Open and fourth Grand Slam mixed doubles title here at the Flushing Meadows when he and his Zimbabwean partner Cara Black beat Scot Jamie Murray and American Liezel Huber in the final 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 late Thursday night at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Paes, incidentally, would be aiming for a double Grand Slam win, since he is also in the men’s doubles final, with Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy.

1) Usain Bolt breaks the 100 meters world record. Bolt already owned the record and in front of a packed Bird’s Nest stadium he ran 9.69 seconds. He thumped his chest in triumph over the last few meters before his ‘marksman’ celebration which became one of the lasting images of the Games.

2) Michael Phelps roars in triumph and relief after American team mate Jason Lezak overtook France’s Alain Bernard on the final leg of the 4×100 freestyle relay to keep alive Phelps’s dream of beating Mark Spitz’s record from 1972 of seven golds in a Games – a dream he was to realize.

Finally, ‘Air Rifle Mr. Gold’ Abhinav Bindra has turned the tables upon India’s Olympian sporting misery outside cricket.

He shot his way into history by winning 10 meter Air Rifle event at Beijing. This is India’s first individual gold in 112 years of modern Olympics, in which India is participating at least since 1900.
